Coaching

Tools can only get you so far.

Every district has bought software that was supposed to change something. Most of it is still logged into by the same four people.

Tools

The answer arrives in ninety seconds instead of three weeks.

Coaching

Somebody changes what happens in the room on Tuesday morning.

Transformation

The decision your district makes in March is a better decision.

Why we do this at all

Software has never changed a district on its own.

We could sell you the platform and walk away. We’ve watched enough implementations to know how that ends.

01

The cabinet meeting doesn’t change

New dashboard, same agenda. Evidence still arrives after the decision has effectively been made, so it functions as justification rather than input.

02

Four people use it

The team that already knew how to get answers gets faster. Everyone else keeps emailing that team. Access went up. Practice didn’t.

03

Nobody agrees what the number means

Two people pull the same metric and get different figures, so the conversation becomes about the data instead of about the students.

None of those are software problems. All three are habits, and habits need a person.

What coaching actually is

We sit in your real meetings, not a training room.

No slide decks about data culture. We work inside the meetings you already hold, with the questions you already have, until the practice holds without us.

🎯

Cabinet practice

We attend your cabinet meeting, then help you restructure it so the evidence is on the table before the opinions are. Most of the work is agenda design and deciding what gets looked at every single time.

  • A standing evidence block your cabinet actually keeps
  • The four or five metrics you look at every month, agreed once
  • What to do when the number disagrees with the anecdote
🏫

Site leadership

Principals get evidence weekly whether or not they have time to look for it. The coaching is about what happens in the twenty minutes after they look, which conversation, with whom, before Friday.

  • A weekly rhythm that survives a hard week
  • MTSS that cycles instead of accumulating
  • Site-level questions your principals can answer themselves
📏

One set of numbers

We work with Ed Services, Assessment and Business Services to agree every definition once (chronic absence, on-track, readiness, growth). Then those definitions go into the product, so nobody can quietly use a different one.

  • Definitions written down and adopted, not assumed
  • The reconciliation report, walked through with your team
  • An end to two people arriving with two numbers
🎤

Board & community

Telling the truth about performance without losing the room is a skill, and most cabinets learn it the hard way. We rehearse the hard version with you before the meeting, including the questions you’re hoping nobody asks.

  • Board items that survive a skeptical trustee
  • How to present a decline without burying it
  • The AI conversation itself, if your community is nervous

The shape of a year

The goal is to become unnecessary.

A coaching engagement that still needs us in year three has failed. We front-load the work and step back on a schedule we agree at the start.

If your team is ready to run it in month seven, we stop in month seven and you stop paying for it.

Talk to us about a year

  1. Weeks 1–4 · WatchWe sit in your cabinet meeting, a principals’ meeting and an MTSS meeting, and say nothing. You can’t coach a practice you haven’t seen.
  2. Months 2–4 · CabinetAgenda redesign, the standing metrics, and the first few meetings run the new way with us in the room.
  3. Months 4–7 · SitesPrincipals and their teams, in cohorts. Weekly rhythm, real students, their own campus.
  4. Months 7–10 · Hand overYour team leads. We observe and debrief. This is the part most vendors skip.
  5. Months 10–12 · Step backQuarterly check-ins if you want them. No renewal pressure, and we’ll tell you if you don’t need us.

Who does it

People who have sat in the chair.

Coaching comes from former superintendents and site leaders who have run this work inside California districts, not from consultants who learned the vocabulary for the engagement.

You’ll meet the person who would coach you before you sign anything. If the fit is wrong, that’s worth knowing in the first hour rather than the fourth month.

Priced separately, on purpose

Coaching is quoted as its own line, not folded into the software subscription. Bundling it would let us hide a services margin inside a software price, and it would make it harder for you to stop paying for something you no longer need.

You can buy the platform without coaching. Plenty of districts should, if you already have a strong data culture and a cabinet that uses it, you don’t need us in the room.

Platform pricing

Straight answers

What districts ask about this.

Isn’t this just professional development with a different name?

The difference is where it happens. Traditional PD takes people out of the work to teach them a framework. This happens inside the work. Your cabinet meeting, your MTSS meeting, your board item. Success is whether the meeting runs differently next month, not whether people liked the session.

Do we have to buy coaching to use Quilt?

No. The platform stands on its own and many districts won’t need this. We offer it because we would rather be honest that a tool alone rarely changes practice, than sell you software and let you discover that in month eight.

Can we buy coaching without the platform?

Yes, though it’s less useful. Much of the coaching depends on evidence being available in the moment. A cabinet that has to wait three weeks for a data request can’t practice a new habit. If you run a different platform well, we can work with that.

What does it cost?

Quoted per engagement based on how many cabinets and sites are involved and how long you want us there. It’s a fixed annual fee, not an hourly rate, so nobody has to think about the clock before asking a question.

We’ll give you a number on the first call, along with an honest view of whether a shorter engagement would do.

How do you know if it worked?

We agree the measures with you at the start, and they’re about practice, not test scores. Does the cabinet look at the standing metrics every month without being prompted? Do principals hold the weekly rhythm in a hard week? Can two people pull the same number and get the same answer?

Anyone who promises you a test-score gain from a coaching engagement is guessing.

Start with the meeting you already dread.

Tell us which meeting in your district produces the least and we’ll tell you honestly whether coaching would change it.
